Thunderstorm caused flooding, power outages in Dayton area

UPDATE:10:20 p.m.

The storm, which caused flooding and minor damage in the Dayton area and other parts of the Miami Valley, was also responsible for power outages in Bellbrook, according to Dayton Power and Light.

A tree fell on a power line that cause more than 1,100 DP&L customers to be without power for a couple of hours, said spokesman Kevin Hall. Power had been restored to nearly of half those customers by 10 p.m., and crews were working to restore power to the remainder of the customers quickly, Hall said.

UPDATE @ 8:15 p.m.:

Both directions of U.S. 35 at James H. McGee have reopened back up for traffic, Montgomery County Dispatch confirmed.

UPDATE @ 7:05 p.m.:

Both directions of U.S. 35 at James H. McGee have been shut down due to flooding. The water is about three feet deep and one motorist was stranded and had to be assisted.

A tow truck was called to the scene to remove the vehicle.

Elsewhere in the Miami Valley, there are reports of flooding and trees falling. The city of Franklin is reporting that trees have fallen in various places, including one that fell on a car.

In addition, there are reports of flooding on Brown Street in Dayton as well as various location in Kettering. One woman who called this newsroom said she could not go home because Acorn Drive, where she lives, is flooded and some homes may be taking on water.

Some motorists might get tickets for driving around a barricade to block drivers from the high water according to an officer on the scene.

Kettering police have put up barricades to prevent motorists from driving in high water, officials said. Anyone caught driving around the barricade will be ticketed.

Vehicles are getting stuck in flooded areas under the bridge at James H. McGee and U.S. 35 West.

The Dayton Fire Department is on scene, Montgomery County Dispatch confirmed.

Also, isolated storms that passed through the Miami Valley on Friday afternoon left some roads partially under water, according to reports from weather spotters and emergency management officials:
Around 5:30 p.m., multiple roads were impassable near Mechanicsburg, including several locations along U.S. 36 and near North Mutual Union Road.
