Butler County man accused of shooting a neighbor is indicted on aggravated murder charge

BUTLER COUNTY — “Senseless and despicable act” is how Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones described the killing of a man shot by his neighbor, according to the Butler County Sheriff’s Office social media page.

A Butler County grand jury indicted Austin Gene Combs, 26, on a charge of aggravated murder, Jones reported. The jury decided there was enough evidence to find that Combs acted with purpose and intent on or about Nov. 5.

Combs remains in the Butler County Jail, according to online jail records.

Police and a medic crew were called to a shooting in the 2700 block of Chapel Road in Morgan Township, near the Indiana state line. Officers found a man dead of a gunshot wound, according to the sheriff’s office.

Further investigation found that Combs was the victim’s neighbor.

“Our investigations division worked quickly to apprehend this man and get him behind bars,” Sheriff Jones said.
