DAYTON — Community leaders are looking for the public’s input on a permanent memorial for the 2019 Oregon District shooting victims.

The 8-4 Memorial Committee has launched a community survey. The survey is online, but paper copies can also be requested by calling the Downtown Dayton Partnership at (937) 224-1518.

On August 4, 2019, a gunman opened fire on East Fifth Street in the busy entertainment district. In the 32 seconds before police killed him, he shot dozens of people. Nine of the victims, including the shooter’s sister, were killed by the gunfire.

“We have already completed some surveying of the residents and businesses in the Oregon District, as well as representatives of the victims and those that survived,” said Downtown Dayton Partnership President and committee co-chair Sandy Gudorf. “So now we want to cast a broader net and if you will, really get the pulse of our community.”

The survey is open now here. The survey is expected to be available for at least the next week and takes just minutes to provide input, organizers said.
