Oxford police stopped at a home on East Walnut Street in that had more than 20 people on Saturday, according to a report from CBS.
Miami University has more than 1,000 students who have tested positive for coronavirus.
The hosts of the party reportedly claimed they knew there were more than 10 people at the home but said they were following quarantine guidelines.
“This particular case is egregious, but I think for the most part, by in large, the students have been very well behaved,” said Lieutenant Lara Fening with the Oxford Police Department.
Six men were cited and fined $500 each. Five of those men live in the house.
“Some residents came over from across the street that were reportedly COVID-positive as well,” said Fening.
Anyone at the party should get tested, Fening suggested.
“We do not know if anybody else at that party was aware of the COVID-positive residents because some of them left while the officer was there,” said Fening.
Miami University said they are charging mass gathering citations under endangering public health and safety its student code of conduct.
