DAYTON — Working from home has forced many people to purchase items they normally wouldn’t.
News Center 7′s Adam Marshall looks into how these extra expenses could impact your tax rebate.
Marshall spoke with Linda Johannes, a certified public accountant with Bradstreet and Associates, and asked if people will be able to write off office supplies in their taxes.
“If you’re a W2 employee and work for someone else, you cannot write those off on your taxes,” explained Johannes. “A couple of years ago, the tax reform, employee business expenses were done away with."
However, if you are self-employed or an independent contractor, you will be able to use the tax break.
“You can write off the items that are an ordinary part of doing business, such as computers, accessories, and so on,” said Johannes.
