Coronavirus: Fairmont High School cancels traditional graduation ceremony planned for July

Fairmont High bully/safety hotline expands to all Kettering schools

coronavirus — Fairmont High School’s principal announced Friday that the school has canceled the in-person graduation ceremony originally planned for July 25, explaining that it would be nearly impossible to comply with regulations.

“These restrictions would have forced us to limit crowds greatly, mandate social distancing for folks not living together in the same household, and encourage the wearing of masks,” Principal Tyler Alexander said in a statement.

Alexander did not note any future plans for an alternative celebration in his statement, saying that he wanted to announce this now so that parents could “plan accordingly.” Students have been provided their diplomas.

Most schools in the Miami Valley planned virtual graduations, or separate ceremonies for each family, following the Coronavirus pandemic.
