Coronavirus: Nearly 700K file for unemployment in Ohio

Nearly 700,000 have filed for unemployment in Ohio the last three weeks, almost double the number that filed for unemployment in all of 2019.

Last week, 226,007 filed for initial unemployment benefits, bringing initial jobless claims filed in Ohio from the past three weeks to 696,519, according to the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services.

In 2019, 364,603 filed for initial jobless claims.

In the last three weeks, $124 million has been paid to those filing for unemployment.

Nationally, 6.6 million Americans filed for unemployment last week, bringing the total to 16.6 million who have filed for unemployment. One in 10 Americans have lost their jobs in the last three weeks.
