ALERT: There are a number of coronavirus-related scams circulating, Lt. Gov. Husted warns

COLUMBUS — Multiple scams relating to the coronavirus have been circulating throughout the state and the country, Lt. Gov. Jon Husted said.

One scam in particular deals with people who are falsely filing for unemployment under the names of real individuals who are working and do not need to file jobless claims. There reportedly have been 3,000 attempts like these in Ohio, Husted said during Tuesday’s news briefing in Columbus on the state’s response to the virus.

Other claims Husted said have been brought to his attention include false claims of coronavirus cures, false working-from-home offers and fake government notices claiming that you have been overpaid in stimulus or unemployment benefits.

Husted said the documents are not real and scammers are attempting to obtain banking and personal information.
