Coronavirus: Ohio sees 100 new COVID deaths since Friday

MIAMI VALLEY — The Ohio Department of Health said there were 993 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, as the state is running below the three-week average for new cases.

The Ohio Department of Health indicated last Thursday that the state is sitting at 119 cases per 100,000. Gov. Mike DeWine’s goal is to be at 50 cases per 100,000 before lifting all health orders in the state.

Data released Monday shows 118 new hospitalizations were reported, which is slightly lower than the 21-day average of 104.

Since March 2020, 1,092,616 confirmed or suspected COVID-19 cases have been reported to the Ohio Department of Health. ODH data released Monday indicates 58,167 people have been hospitalized since the start of the pandemic.

According to data released Tuesday, ODH reported 19,628 deaths in the state since the pandemic began in March 2020. Death data was changed beginning Mar. 2 to show those who are Ohio residents who have died from COVID-19 and numbers will only be released twice a week. There were 100 additional deaths reported Tuesday.

As of Tuesday afternoon, an additional 22,437 people started their vaccinations in the last 24 hours. 5,017,279 people or 42.92 percent of the state’s population, has received at least one vaccine dose, according to state data.

Tuesday’s data shows 1,048,450 people are presumed to have recovered from the virus.

There have been 12,893,582 COVID-19 tests in Ohio. A total of 62,397 health care workers have tested positive which is about 6 percent of the cases.

Ohio has an estimated population of approximately 11.7 million, census records show.
