NEW DETAILS: Mason mother was running late in child’s  hot car death

Newly obtained records indicate the Warren County mother whose child died in the back seat of their car after being left inside all day as the mother worked was running late that day.

A search warrant affidavit filed by Mason Police Department Detective Jeff Wyss said Karen Osorio-Martinez left her 15-month-old daughter, Sofia Aveiro, inside the car for about nine hours Wednesday.

“Upon speaking with Ms. Osorio-Martinez, she advised that she was running late to work and usually drops Sofia off at daycare. It was also determined that Sofia’s father, Henrique Aveiro, attempted to pick up Sofia up at daycare and was advised she was not there, so he contacted his wife as she was leaving work,” the affidavit said.

“A rear-facing child restraint seat was located in the back seat of the vehicle behind the driver.”

The mother's residence, also in Mason, is about a five minute drive from the P&G Mason Business Center at 8700 South Mason Montgomery Road.

No charges have been filed in the case.

Mason police have referred questions to the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office, which has said it will review the case and determine if any charges will be filed. Otherwise, Prosecutor David Fornshell said his office will withhold additional comment.

Osorio-Martinez’s car is being held by Mason police, and officers also seized the car seat and a sunscreen.

Emergency Medical Technicians attempted to resuscitate the girl, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
