Victim identified in deadly Woodman Drive shooting

DAYTON — UPDATE @ 12:48 p.m.

The victim of a deadly shooting early Tuesday on Woodman Drive was identified as 44-year-old Toby Thomas by Montgomery County Coroner Dr. Kent Harshbarger.

Thomas was pronounced dead at 4:33 a.m. at Miami Valley Hospital.

His death is under investigation by Dayton police.

UPDATE @ 8 a.m. 

The shooting is a homicide, police said, and a person who said he witnessed the incident and called 911 said the victim is a man.

The witness, who we are not identifying at this time, said he was in the area and heard a commotion. He looked and noticed a neighbor, who was holding a bag, talking to two men.

The victim said to the men: “I don’t have anything, I don’t have anything.” The man then dropped the bag and ran. As he was running, one of the two men shot him, the witness said.

FIRST REPORT:

Police are investigating a shooting in the 1600 block of Woodman Drive.

Scanner traffic indicates that a female has been shot, and police are searching for two male suspects.
