DAYTON — UPDATE @ 5:10 p.m. (Jan. 30):
A man is in Montgomery County Jail in connection to a weekend homicide.
Kalvin K. Jones, 22, is being held in jail on a count of murder. He’s accused in the death of Michael Cook, 21, of Dayton was found dead just before 1 p.m. Saturday in a yard on Brooklyn Avenue.

A man found dead in an alley in the 600 block of Brooklyn Avenue has been identified.
Michael Cook, 21, of Dayton was found dead just before 1 p.m. Saturday.
According to Montgomery County Coroners Office, the cause of Cook’s death is not yet being released.
UPDATE @ 1:07 a.m. (Jan. 28): A neighbor called 9-1-1 Saturday afternoon after being informed that a man was laying dead in a nearby Dayton alley.

“I think there’s a dead man in the alley”, the woman says in a short two-minute phone call to dispatchers.
Police were called shortly before 1 p.m. to the 600 block of Brooklyn Avenue on a reported shooting, per initial reports.
The 911 caller recalled hearing three or four gunshots earlier that morning before alerting police of the dead body.
The woman says another neighbor heard the gunshots as well, but was too afraid to inform police, prompting her to make the phone call herself.
The victim, described as a man in his 20s, was pronounced deceased by Dayton medics at the scene.
His identity has not been released, but Dayton police are seeking the public’s help in finding out any details that led to his death.

Dayton police are seeking the public’s help to find out what led to a man’s death today in an alley in the 600 block of Brooklyn Avenue.
Police were called shortly before 1 p.m., but neighbors reported hearing gunshots around 11 a.m. that may have led to the man’s death. Police and the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office have not released the victim’s name or cause of death.
The victim was described as a man in his 20s. He was pronounced deceased by Dayton medics at the scene.
“We need the public to come forward and let us know if they saw something or if they heard something in terms of gunshots or they saw a certain vehicle pull away, speed away; we just need a timeline to try to find closure for this family to find out who did this crime,” Dayton police Sgt. Creigee S. Coleman said.

Police have taken down the crime scene tape behind an alley in the 600 block of Brooklyn Avenue.
The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office was on scene to retrieve a body that was found. The person’s death is under investigation by homicide detectives. Police initially were called shortly before 1 p.m. on a report of a shooting.
