Dayton VA head chaplain arrested

A Dayton VA Medical Center chaplain was arrested in Trotwood on Monday night on suspicion of domestic violence, according to authorities.

Wendell K. Rome, 51, was arrested at a home after he allegedly pushed his wife just after 8:30 p.m. during an argument, Trotwood police reported.

The suspect allegedly shoved the victim “forcefully,” and the victim fell and struck her right elbow on the floor and her head against a cabinet, a police report said. The victim refused medical treatment at the scene, authorities said.

The suspect was transported to the Montgomery County Jail. He posted a $5,000 bond and was released from custody Tuesday morning, according to authorities.

Dayton VA spokesman Ted Froats said Tuesday the VA will cooperate with a police investigation.

“Of course, we’re going to assist the police with the investigation in any way that we can,” he said. “We take the allegations very seriously.” The Dayton VA website identifies Rome as the chief chaplain of four who serve the Dayton VA. Additional information from the VA was not available Tuesday, Froats indicated.

The case was forwarded to the Montgomery County Municipal Court Western Division to schedule an arraignment date, police said.
