Dayton man charged with murder in son’s death

DAYTON — A Dayton man accused of shooting and killing his 29-year-old son is facing multiple charges, including murder.

Earl E. Shingleton, 57, was also charged with two counts of felonious assault, according to the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office.

Each count carries a three-year firearm specification.

On Feb. 5, Shingleton and his son, Kevin Johnson, were having a verbal argument at their Wyoming Street home when Shingleton  went into his bedroom and got a rifle. He then went back to the living room and fired once at his son, who was sitting by his mother.

Johnson was taken to Miami Valley Hospital and died shortly after.
