Competency evaluation ordered in Huber Heights fatal shooting

HUBER HEIGHTS — UPDATED @ 3:21 p.m. (Sept. 4):

A competency evaluation has been ordered for a Dayton man accused of fatally shooting a 19-year-old Huber Heights man.

Levi Lambert’s attorney motioned for an evaluation of Lambert’s mental condition Friday.

Montgomery County Common Pleas Court Judge Timothy O’Connell ordered the evaluation Tuesday.

Lambert is due back in court Oct. 22.

The defense attorney for a 19-year-old Dayton man accused of murder has filed a motion for a competency evaluation.

The motion asks the Montgomery County Common Pleas Court to order an evaluation of Levi Lambert’s mental condition, according to court documents.

Lambert is accused of fatally shooting a 19-year-old Huber Heights man on Aug. 5.

A scheduling conference for Lambert is set for Tuesday.

A 19-year-old Dayton man accused of fatally shooting a Huber Heights man pleaded not guilty to charges Tuesday morning.

Charges for Levi Lambert included two counts of murder, one count of improperly discharging a firearm at or into a habitation, two counts of felonious assault and one count of tampering with evidence.

Bond was set at $1 million, according to the Montgomery County Common Pleas Court.

Lambert will continue to be held in the Montgomery County Jail.

A scheduling conference for Lambert was set for Sept. 4.

INITIAL REPORT:

A 19-year-old Dayton man is accused of murder and other charges in connection to a shooting that claimed the life of a Huber Heights man.

Levi Dalton Lambert was indicted Wednesday on two counts of murder, one count of improperly discharging a firearm at or into a habitation, two counts of felonious assault and one count of tampering with evidence. All but the last charge also include three-yer firearm specifications, according to the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office.

Lambert is accused of fatally shooting Evan Lewis, 19, on Aug. 5. Lewis was found critically injured lying at the corner of intersection of Bellefontaine Road and Hilgeford Drive. He was taken to Miami Valley Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Lambert is held on a $1 million bond in the Montgomery County Jail, where he has been since his Aug. 5 arrest. He will be arraigned Aug. 21.
