Dayton man sentenced to 20 years in hit-and-run, shooting

DAYTON — A 39-year-old Dayton man accused of a hit-and-run crash in January that left a juvenile with life-altering injuries was sentenced to 20 years in prison, according to the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office.

Michael Harrison pleaded guilty to two counts of felonious assault, improperly discharging a firearm at or into a habitation, tampering with evidence and having a weapon while under disability earlier this month, according to Montgomery County Common Pleas Court records.

The improper discharge charge included a three-year firearm specification.

Harrison also received a lifetime driving suspension.

On Jan. 26, Harrison ran over a juvenile in field after shooting at another juvenile at a North James H. McGee Boulevard gas station, according to the grand jury indictment.

The juvenile hit by the vehicle was reportedly running from the gas station and was put on life support as a result.

One of the two juveniles had jumped into a running vehicle while  the driver went to the gas station window as Harrison arrived in a different vehicle, according to the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office.

Harrison shot at the juvenile as they tried to back out of the gas station parking lot. When the second juvenile took off running, Harrison reportedly ran them over.

Harrison was indicted on multiple counts of felonious assault, improperly discharging a firearm, tampering with evidence and multiple counts of having a weapon while under disability.
