Bond set for woman in high-speed pursuit that damaged Oakwood cruiser

A 19-year-old woman accused of a driving a stolen car in a high-speed police chase that resulted in heavy damage to an Oakwood cruiser made her first court appearance in the case Tuesday morning.

Bond was set at $25,000 for Jacki Lynn Newton, according to Montgomery County Common Pleas Court records.

She is accused of driving a stolen vehicle that eluded officers in Oakwood during a chase that ended around 4:25 a.m. June 4 in the parking lot of DRT Manufacturing Co. at Forrer Boulevard and San Rae Drive in Kettering.

Newton was apprehended after a short foot pursuit, officers said.

She was indicted June 14 for two counts of failure to comply with an order or signal of a police officer and single counts of felonious assault, vandalism and receiving stolen property, which are all felonies. She also is charged with failure to stop after an accident and criminal damaging, both misdemeanors, according to a Montgomery County grand jury report.

Newton is in the Montgomery County Jail, where she has been held since her June 4 arrest by Oakwood officers.
