MIAMISBURG — A STOP inmate who walked away from a work detail earlier this month in downtown Dayton was indicted for escape.
Chad Edward Dakota Branch, 18, of Miamisburg, was a participant in the secure transitional offender program, a drug and alcohol intervention facility, that is overseen by the Montgomery County courts.
He was accused of walking away Jan. 2 from a work site at the Dayton Early College Academy, also known as DECA Prep. He was arrested Jan. 7 on North 10th Street in Miamisburg.
Branch is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court.
EARLIER REPORT (Jan. 7):
A man who walked away from a STOP program work detail on Jan. 2 in downtown Dayton was caught early this morning by Miamisburg police, according to Miamisburg Police Department Sgt. Josh Himan.
Chad Branch, 18, of Miamisburg, is currently in the Montgomery County Jail, charged with a probation violation. Jail records said that he was arrested at 1:43 a.m. on North 10th Street in Miamisburg.

Himan said that officers found Branch knocking on residents’ doors and took him into custody.
Branch was in the secure transitional offender program, a dug and alcohol intervention facility overseen by the Montgomery County Courts. He escaped while on a work detail at the Dayton Early College Academy, also known as DECA Prep.
He was indicted on Oct. 5 for stealing a woman’s car and then trying to elude police in Miamisburg, according to court records.
He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to five years of probation plus admittance into the STOP facility for treatment.
After he walked off the work detail, he was declared an absconder and a nationwide warrant was issued for his arrest.
