Fairfield woman gets $250 in fake money for Apple Watch in Dayton

Cash

DAYTON — An 18-year-old Fairfield woman reported a fraud Thursday after she traded an Apple Watch for fake money.

The woman said she listed an Apple Watch Series 3 for sale through Offer Up, an online site used to buy and sell merchandise, according to a Dayton police report.

She was contacted through text messages and agreed to meet a potential buyer Thursday evening in the 300 block of Mia Avenue. Once there, a young man presented her with two $100 bills and one $50 bills.

When she drove back to Fairfield, she found out all the money was counterfeit after she tried to use it at a Meijer store, the report stated.

She then returned to Dayton to file a police report.

The same serial number was on both $100 bills, the report stated.

The person who handed the woman the fake cash is described as a young man between 15 and 19 with a thin build and light facial hair wearing a black hoodie and sweatpants.

No arrests have been made in the case.
