The car led police on a nine-minute chase across Dayton, reaching speeds above 100 mph as it traveled west on U.S. 35, then north on U.S. 49 before the car stopped in the middle of the road near the Olive Road intersection.
According to Sellers, the suspect then got out of the Veloster holding a .357 revolver and began walking toward the trooper.
The trooper went behind his cruiser for cover and to retrieve a rifle.
Sellers said that the trooper looked out from cover and saw the man point the gun at him. The trooper fired three shots, hitting the man three times. The suspect didn’t fire any shots.
Troopers and Trotwood police officers applied first aid, but he died at the scene, Sellers said.

A crime scene reconstruction team responded the scene, closing a portion of Salem Avenue between Olive Road and the intersection with U.S. 49. Several hours later Salem Avenue was reopened.
The trooper will be placed on administrative leave while they investigate the shooting.
A call for assistance was issued after the car stopped, then canceled shortly afterward.
