Hit-and-run driver topples fire hydrant in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD — A hit-and-run driver knocked over a fire hydrant, which was leaking water Tuesday night in Springfield.

Crews were called around 9:40 p.m. to the hydrant in the area of North Bechtle Avenue and St. Paris Connector, Springfield police said.

The driver who hit the hydrant fled. Police said they did not yet have a description of the suspect’s vehicle.
