Honduran national deported 4 times from U.S. sentenced to prison

DAYTON — A 33-year-old Honduran man will spend the next year in prison after he was found in the United States following his fourth deportation.

Edgar Ezequiel Ramos-Serrano likely will be deported for a fifth time following his prison sentence for illegal reentry of a removed alien. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Court Judge Walter H. Rice.

Ramos-Serrano was convicted of the same offense twice before in Pennsylvania and Ohio.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents found Ramos-Serrano on Feb. 19 at the Montgomery County Jail following his arrest on traffic-related charges, according to court documents.

A citizen of Honduras, he was deported from the United States to Honduras in June 2005, July 2009, July 2010 and November 2013, according to a release from Benjamin C. Glassman, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio.

Following his July 2009 deportation, Ramos-Serrano returned illegally and was convicted in Pennsylvania of reentry of a removed alien and sentenced to “time served” of approximately two months. He again returned illegally and in November 2013 was found in Ohio and convicted of the same offense and also was sentenced to “time served,” approximately five months, and deported.

He pleaded guilty in April to one count of illegal entry. In addition to his one-year sentence he will have a three-year period of supervised release. Returning during the three-year period may lead to additional sanctions, the release stated.

“He was sentenced to time served for each of his two prior convictions, then deported, and each time he returned illegally” Glassman said. “This time he’s going to prison for more than just time served, a fair and just sentence which promotes respect for the law.”
