Montgomery County Coroner’s Office helps ID Richmond homicide victim

The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office helped to identify a Richmond man found dead Oct. 6 in Wayne County, Indiana.

James Herbolt II, 27, died of a gunshot wound. Wayne County Coroner Ron Stevens said Oct. 11, the Palladium Item reported. Stevens already had ruled Herbolt’s death a homicide after receiving a preliminary autopsy report from Montgomery County.

Herbolt’s family reported him missing Sept. 27 to the Richmond Police Department, Wayne County Sheriff Jeff Cappa told the Pal-Item. Herbolt was found in the Nolands Fork Road area in the county.

The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office will perform a forensic autopsy on a homicide victim from Wayne County, Indiana.

Wayne County Sheriff Jeff Cappa said investigators from his office and the Richmond Police Department, acting on a tip, found the deceased man shortly after 3 p.m. Oct. 6 in the Nolands Fork Road area, the Palladium-Item reported Saturday.

Cappa told the Pal-Item that Wayne County Coroner Ron Stevens ruled the death a homicide and is waiting for forensic test result to determine the victim’s identity.
