A 20-year-old Kettering man will be in court this morning in connection to a house fire last month in Kettering.

Jason T. Pickett is charged with aggravated arson, burglary, grand theft of a motor vehicle and two counts of grand thet of a firearm, all felony charges, in connection to a June 19 fire at a home in the 1300 block of Elmdale Drive, according to a Montgomery County grand jury report released Monday.

Pickett has been held in the Montgomery County Jail since his June 19 arrest by Kettering police, online jail records show.

Fire officials in Kettering are investigating the cause of a fire that damaged a home July 19 in the 1300 block of Elmdale Drive.

Crews encountered smoke pouring from the one-story home upon arrival around 9 a.m.

No one was home at the time and no one was injured. Neighbors are credited for saving the home from the flames because they called 9-1-1 after seeing smoke, according to an official.

The people who live at the home were out of town, according to the official.

The fire started in the basement, but the exact cause was not immediately known.

The home sustained smoke and water damage, but a cost estimate was not immediately available.
