CENTERVILLE — A Centerville mother is speaking out, after her son is accused of locking his girlfriend inside his home and stabbing her.

Kyle M. Quillen is in the Montgomery County Jail on charges of rape, abduction and felonious assault following the Christmas incident at his Detroit Avenue home in Harrison Twp.
Angela Stacy said there is more to the story.
She said her son has suffered from mental health issues for more than a decade, back to his time at Centerville High School. Since then, she said Quillen has had constant trouble with his mental health and the law, and that he self medicates with drugs.
She spoke with News Center 7’s Sean Cudahy, surrounded by her son’s medical records and medications. She said he has a dual diagnosis of bipolar disorder and schizophrenia.

Stacy said she wanted to voice her frustration when it comes to mental health care, not to argue her son’s guilt or innocence.
“He’s been charged with things but he’s not been found guilty of anything yet,” she said.
She said her son has been in programs instead of prison, but that she believes he needs a long-term stay instead of releasing him after 10 days.
“Unfortunately, I think this could have been avoided had someone heard me,” she said.

“Right now, he’s got probate through the mental health board. I’ve reached out. I’ve called. I’ve called officers long before this story broke on Christmas day,” she said.
“There’s no help for these people, and I’m not going to quit fighting for not just my son. I’m out for your family, my family, the neighbor.”
