The incident happened at the Speedway location on South Main Street and Spring Valley Pike around 6:30 a.m. Friday.

The driver of a black Toyota sedan first caused a crash on Far Hills Avenue just north of Interstate 675. After the crash, police were also taking reports of an erratic driver continuing south into Centerville, and a suspicious person at the Speedway store. All three reports would later determined to be connected and the same driver, according to Centerville police.

The driver, who was not identified, tried to run away from officers who responded to the gas station.

Officers got into a fight with the driver before he was taken into custody. He was taken to an area hospital for an evaluation, but was not injured in the fight with police or the crash, according to investigators.

Police said drugs or alcohol are “highly suspected” as being a factor in the incident.

No officers were injured.
