Police: Teen lies about rape at Springfield aquatic center

SPRINGFIELD — A teenage girl’s sexual assault at a Springfield pool never happened, police say.

Springfield police detectives determined the assault that reportedly happened June 30 at the Splash Zone Aquatic Center, 300 Eagle City Road was false, according to a news release.

The girl is now charged with filing a false report after she admitted to police she made up the incident, police said.

“We have determined that a sexual assault did not occur at the Splash Zone,” Springfield police Chief Lee Graf said. “This young person’s false statements caused needless fears and concerns amongst our citizens and pulled our officers and detectives away from the business of helping actual victims of crimes.”
