Officers were dispatched at 11:50 p.m. to the business at 1331 N. Fairfield Road.
Two men entered the store, walked to the pharmacy counter and displayed a gun, demanding the employee to fill a trash bag with bottles of codeine cough syrup, Beavercreek police said Wednesday afternoon in a media release.
The two men fled in an SUV, occupied by two other people, police said. Officers spotted the SUV attempting to leave the parking lot and pursued the vehicle after the driver didn’t stop.
The SUV crashed into a fire hydrant and mailbox on Ranchfield Drive shortly later.
The driver, identified as Yusuf Ahmed, 19, and a passenger who was not identified, were detained after the crash.
Ahmed is booked in the Fairborn City Jail on charges of complicity to commit a robbery and failure to comply, police said. It was not known if the passenger who was detained after the robbery and pursuit would face any charges.
The two men who police said committed the robbery fled on foot after the crash. Police said a search by a K-9 officer was unsuccessful and both remain at large.
One suspect has a thin build who was wearing a red hat with fur lining, black jacket, dark pants and gloves. The other is described as stocky and wearing a light-colored hat, gray shirt, dark pants and gloves, according to police.
