Bond set for security guard accused of child sex crimes at Dayton rec center

DAYTON — UPDATE @ 2:23 p.m.:

A Dayton Municipal Court judge set bond at $300,000 for a former security guard facing felony sex charges involving five boys.

Laquita Ross made her first court appearance for the charges via video today.

If she makes bond, Ross will be on electronic home detention.

A pre-trial hearing was scheduled for April 18.

A Dayton security guard accused of performing sex acts on five boys is no longer an employee of a security company used to provide guards at Northwest Recreation Center.

Laquita L. Ross was reportedly on duty at the rec center when the incidents occurred.

A woman who identified herself as Moonlight Security’s HR director said Ross “is no longer an employee” with the company, whose website advertises, “Enforcement With A Smile.”

The woman named Ashley would not elaborate on when Ross’ employment ended.

INITIAL REPORT:

A security guard at a Dayton recreation center is accused of performing sex acts on five boys while on duty and there may be additional victims, according to court records and investigators.

Laquita L. Ross, 41, was charged with two counts of rape and four counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, according to Dayton Municipal Court records.

She was arrested April 9.

Ross was working as a Moonlight Security guard at the Northwest Recreation Center, when she is accused of participating in sex acts with the five boys in an alley behind the center, a Dayton police detective reported in a statement of facts.

The alleged incidents happened March 19 on Vernon Avenue between 5 and 9 p.m.

The boys’ ages range from 12 to 15 years old.

The City of Dayton contracts with Moonlight Security to provide security at the rec center, according to city spokeswoman Toni Bankston.

Ross is scheduled to be arraigned in court later today.

We have reached out to the city for an additional comment on the incident and public records potentially related to Ross.

A 911 regional dispatch center sergeant said there were no calls from the recreation center or the address where the alleged crimes took place.

Ross was charged last month in municipal court with drunk driving and other traffic offenses. She is scheduled for an April 23 pretrial conference.

Ross was booked into jail for menacing in August 2017 but the charge was cleared, according to online records.

She also was booked into jail in 2000 on a forgery charge that was cleared as well as a misdemeanor assault charge in 2001 for which she was sentenced, according to records.
