U.S. 35 shots fired: Suspect charged after multiple vehicles hit by gunfire

DAYTON — A 21-year-old man accused of firing a gun and striking multiple vehicles during rush hour Monday on U.S. 35 is formally charged.

Micheal J. Blair, of Dayton, turned himself into police Tuesday evening, Dayton police Lt. Jason Hall said.

Today, the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office filed several charges against Blair: two counts of felonious assault and one count of discharge of a firearm on or near prohibited premises, each with firearm specifications; and one count of having weapons while under disability for a prior violent offense.

Police were called not long after 4 p.m. to the area of U.S. 35 and Liscum Drive on a report of a gunman hanging out of an older model silver Pontiac shooting at a blue car.

“We know that multiple vehicles were struck in addition to the blue vehicle,” Hall said.

No one was injured in the attack.

“It was not a random incident, it was targeted,” Hall said. “It did stem from a long-running dispute. ... We believe that the suspect was targeting the (blue) vehicle, believing that his intended target was inside.”

Blair remains in the Montgomery County Jail on a $200,000 bond.

Hall said the investigation is ongoing, but that police need the public’s help.

“We have yet to retain the weapon that was used in this crime. We are also looking for an older silver Pontiac, possibly Grand Prix or Grand Am, that was used in the commission of this act, and also any other information about anyone else who might have been aware or had any part in the attack,” he said.
