Suspect in overnight Washington Twp. motel standoff detained for feds

WASHINGTON TWP., Montgomery County — UPDATE @ 7:10 p.m.:

The suspect in the overnight standoff at Motel 6 in Washington Twp. was identified as 48-year-old Kurt Denton Crouch.

He is being held on a federal detainer in the Montgomery County Jail.

FIRST REPORT

The suspect who was the subject of an hourslong standoff at a Washington Twp. motel surrendered shortly after a SWAT team breached the door to his room, Montgomery County Sheriff Rob Streck said.

Deputies were dispatched just before midnight Monday to the motel on Miamisburg Centerville Road near Interstate 675 after a 911 caller reported hearing gunshots in a neighboring room.

When officers arrived, the suspect allegedly fired shots at the officers, hitting one cruiser with gunfire, according to deputies.

Officers did not return gunfire, nor did they fire any shots during the standoff. Canisters of tear gas were sent into the room in an attempt to force the suspect out.

SWAT crews, including units from Dayton police, used an armored vehicle to breach the door to the suspect’s room around 8 a.m. Shortly after the door was breached, the suspect came out and was taken into custody, Streck said.

The identity of the suspect was not immediately released and it was not known what charges they might face.

No injuries were reported during the incident.

During the standoff, both directions of Miamisburg Centerville Road were blocked and nearby Southview Medical Center was placed on lockdown.

All lanes of Miamisburg Centerville Road were reopened before 8:30 a.m.
