DAYTON — It took a would-be thief three tries to get out of Step-N-Style while the alarm was blaring inside the store.
Dayton police were dispatched at 4:40 a.m. Saturday to a burglary alarm at the business in the 3200 block of Siebenthaler Avenue. When officers arrived, the front and rear entrances were secure, according to a Dayton police report.
Police were called back at 5:25 a.m. after a man from the store reported there had been a break-in through the roof.

A surveillance video captured a man who came down a hole in the roof into the men’s clothing store. He had his head covered with a hood and was wearing gloves, the report stated. The suspect put five bags of belts inside a bag and headed to the back of the store when the alarm sounded.
The suspect then hopped on a clothes fixture and jumped back onto the roof. He fell and tore a huge part of the drop ceiling, according to police. He attempted it a second time but fell and tore down more of the drop ceiling.
On the third try, he is able to get out, but not with any stolen goods, the report stated. Police also found a shovel and saw next to the hole in the roof. Police have not identified a suspect.
