Suspect in high-speed chase with kids in car indicted

SPRINGFIELD — A Springfield man is accused of trying to elude police last month by driving at a high rate of speed with children in the car.

Chadwick L. Carpenter, 37, was indicted this week for failure to comply with a police officer, a felony, and two misdemeanor counts of child endangering in connection by a Clark County grand jury.

Springfield police said officers were aware that Carpenter had an arrest warrant for a child neglect case when they spotted him driving a car on Oct. 25. When officers tried to apprehend him, police said he fled in the car with women and children inside, and that speeds reached about 80 mph.

Carpenter was arrested Nov. 1 at a home in the 400 block of Linden Avenue following a raid by the U.S. Marshals Service.
