Troy man pleads guilty to burglary spree, could face 94 years in prison

TROY — A Troy man accused along with a Troy woman in a spree of burglaries across Miami County in 2017 pleaded guilty Monday to 21 felony indictments that carry a combined possible prison term of 94½ years.

Mark D. Burgin, 39, was arrested along with Angela Roberts, 30, in burglaries in Bethel, Monroe and Springcreek townships. Prosecutors said the two committed the crimes between February and August 2017. Both also were convicted in Warren County burglaries and are serving five-year prison terms in those cases.

Burgin and Roberts were scheduled to go on trial beginning Tuesday in Miami County Common Pleas Court.

As part of a plea deal, prosecutors agreed to recommend a 20-year prison term and dismiss four firearms specifications against Burgin. The local sentence also would run concurrent to the five years ordered in Warren County.

Burgin pleaded guilty to 18 burglary counts and one count each of safecracking, engaging in corrupt activity and conspiracy to engage in corrupt activity.

Judge Jeannine Pratt accept the pleas and scheduled sentencing Sept. 24.

Last week, Roberts pleaded guilty to 17 burglary counts and one count each of safecracking, engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity and conspiracy to engage in a pattern of corrupt activity.

As part of a plea deal, five gun specifications were dismissed. For Roberts, prosecutors agreed to recommend a 15-year sentence that would run concurrent to the Warren County sentence.

Pratt said Roberts faces a maximum 91½ years. Her sentencing also will be Sept. 24.

Paul Watkins, assistant county prosecutor, said Burgin and Roberts engaged in “a very in-depth and lengthy path of criminal conduct.”
