1 Central State student hospitalized after being struck while riding bike

WILBERFORCE — At least one Central State University student is in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle while riding a bicycle Sunday afternoon, according to a media release.

A male first-year student was struck by a vehicle coming across US 42 heading towards campus from a bike trail near Wilberforce Switch Road, the school said.

He was taken to a local hospital.

Three other people were in the vehicle, including two current students, they were not injured.

The driver, a former student, was treated for minor injuries at the scene and released.

“The Central State University community is deeply saddened by this unfortunate accident,” said Dr. Jack Thomas, Central State University President. “We are praying for the individuals involved, especially for our student who is treated for serious injuries.”

Counseling services will be available to support students and their families, according to Dr. Thomas.

The crash remains under investigation.
