Arrest made in connection to deadly weekend shooting in Dayton

DAYTON — UPDATE @ 10:30 a.m. (Oct. 7):

Dayton police have arrested a man on a preliminary charge of murder in connection to a deadly shooting Sunday morning, according to a police incident report.

Robert Brooks, 32, was arrested Tuesday afternoon in connection to the deadly shooting of Kato Knight, 25, on Necco Avenue early Sunday morning.

Knight died at Miami Valley Hospital from his injuries after police responded to reports of a shooting victim.

FIRST REPORT (Oct. 5):

A 25-year-old man was killed early Sunday morning in what police have classified as a homicide, according to a police incident report.

Kato D. Knight, of Dayton, died at Miami Valley Hospital following the incident, Montgomery County Coroner Dr. Kent Harshbarger said Monday. Knight’s cause and manner of death remain under investigation, Harshbarger said.

The incident was reported in the 3900 block of Necco Avenue just after 3 a.m. Sunday. Emergency scanner traffic indicates officers were called to investigate a shooting reported in that same area.

Additional details about the investigation were not immediately available.
