RIVERSIDE — UPDATE: 3 p.m.

Sgt. Chris Colbert with the Dayton Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol told News Center 7 the crash happened when a vehicle heading southbound in the northbound lanes of SR-4 collided with two other vehicles travelling northbound in the left lane.

After colliding with the two vehicles, the at-fault vehicle “went off into the median and burned,” Colbert said.

Colbert says they are still working to identify the driver, who he confirmed was killed in the crash.

The other two vehicles involved were severely damaged, however, Colbert says neither driver suffered serious injuries.

Colbert says the other two drivers escaped being seriously injured because they were wearing their seatbelts.

“With a 60 mile an hour front impact like that, if you’re not wearing your seatbelt, even with airbags and that kind of stuff, you’re looking at 120 mile an hour collision speed at minimum,” Colbert said.

According to Colbert, OSP did receive 911 calls minutes before the crash in the Greene County area where the driver was traveling southbound.

“We believe he got on somewhere between 70 and Huber Heights area somewhere, but we don’t know exactly,” Colbert said.

OSP is still investigating why the driver was traveling in the wrong direction, and if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.

News Center 7 will continue updating this story as we learn more.
