Richmond Police Officer Seara Burton is in hospice care in Richmond, Indiana after being transferred Saturday out of the intensive-care-unit at Miami Valley Hospital.
>>Chief: Richmond police officer transferred from hospital to hospice facility in Richmond
Richmond’s Police Department posted the update on its Facebook page late Saturday afternoon.
This comes two days after she was taken off life support and more than three weeks after someone shot her during a traffic stop.
People continue to think of Officer Burton, her family, and the Richmond Department with all the flowers and candles people have placed all over her cruiser.
“I mean we’re all supporting Seara,” said Traci Morris.
She and her nine-year-old daughter are among those who stopped by Saturday to drop off some flowers.
“We also got a heart that says ‘love’ on it,” Aubrianna Morris said.

Traci told News Center 7′s Brandon Lewis she crossed paths with Officer Burton at one point.
“My son was being bullied and she was the officer that was called and she said she wouldn’t put up it because she’d been bullied because of her sexual orientation,” Morris said. “She wouldn’t put up with it, and she went and dealt with it.”
Some people told Lewis that Burton was polite, sweet, and loved her work.
“Someone ran into the back end of my car and she was the officer that took our accident report,” said Karen Burton. “She’s a very sweet cop, very efficient officer, and very courteous.
With the news that Burton is in hospice, Lewis said you could see the emotions on people’s faces as they walked up to the cruiser.

“She’s there because she’s protecting us so we’re here to support her,” said Morris.
“Whatever God decides to do will be done, it’s in his hands,” Burton said. “I just want the family to know that I’m praying for them and that the police department, hopefully justice will be done.”
People have also written messages on a poster outside the Richmond city building offering prayers and support.
This is something we have seen in the weeks since the Officer Burton was shot.
