Dwayne Jones Jr. was indicted by a Montgomery County grand jury Friday on two counts of murder and two counts of felonious assault stemming from the death of Kameron Dewberry, 18, of Dayton May 8, Montgomery County Prosecutor Mat Heck said in a media statement Friday.

Dewberry was found shot multiple times near West Hudson Avenue and Rustic Road in Dayton shortly after midnight last Saturday. He was transported to an area hospital where he later died from his injuries, Dayton police previously told News Center 7.

Investigators added the shooting stemmed from an argument that escalated into gunfire.

Jones remains booked in the Montgomery County Jail Friday with bond set at $1 million earlier this week.

Saturday’s shooting has links to other shootings in the city including the officer-involved shooting on Lexington Avenue this week. Walter Dewberry, 20, was arrested initially on a probation violation after the officer-involved shooting on Lexington Avenue.

Court and coroner’s office records obtained by News Center 7 indicate Walter and Kameron Dewberry lived at the same house.

The police-involved shooting stemmed from an investigation into another separate shooting Wednesday on Kumlar Avenue where a 17-year-old suffered critical injuries. Two Dayton police detectives, identified as Det. Matthew Gray and Det. Angela Woody, shot Jarious Wood, 32, Dayton Assistant Police Chief Mat Carper said Thursday.

Carper said the two detectives fired shots in self-defense after the detectives said they heard a gunshot and way a flash from a gun.

Police are also continuing to search for a Jayden Dewberry who police believe is the person who shot the 17-year-old on Kumlar Avenue Wednesday. An hours-long standoff took place about a block away from the police-involved shooting on Lexington Avenue Thursday where police through Jayden was holed up. He was not located inside the house.

The series of events is believed to involve at least two groups of people involved in multiple felonious assault crimes in recent weeks in the city, Carper said during a news conference Thursday. Carper added those groups have been involved in crimes that are believed to involve revenge for previous incidents.

Additional details were not released.
