DAYTON — A Dayton man pleaded guilty to federal charges for his roles in the robberies of several businesses in the Dayton area earlier this year, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.
Kavonte Knolton, 21, entered guilty pleas Friday in federal court on charges of using a firearm during a crime of violence and robbery, a spokesperson for the DOJ’s Southern District of Ohio said in a media release.
Knolton will serve up to 20 years in prison for the robbery charge and between seven years to life in prison for the use of a firearm while committing a crime, the spokesperson said. The sentence is also required to be served consecutively.
His sentence will be set on Jan. 14, 2021.
Court records allege Knolton was one of two men who worked together to rob multiple businesses in February and March. Knolton and the other man, Jamaal Murphy, 19, were arrested in June after they were charged in federal court.
Investigators alleged Knolton and Murphy robbed a UDF on Woodman Avenue in Dayton and the Circle K in Kettering in February. The duo was also accused of robbing the Wyoming Mini-Mart in Dayton in March.
Charges against Murphy are pending, investigators said.
