Greene Co. Democratic Party building targeted by vandals for third time in 15 months

XENIA — The headquarters of the Greene County Democratic Party was targeted by vandals for the third time in just over a year and county party leaders are offering a reward for information that could help investigators.

Just after 1 a.m. Friday two bricks were thrown through the windows of the building located at the intersections of Main and Detroit streets in downtown Xenia, Doris Adams, Chair of the Greene County Democratic Party told News Center 7′s John Bedell.

“This is the third time. The first time, they lobbed a chunk of concrete through the window and nobody got caught,” Adams said. “The second time, they had a drive-by shooting. And fired six or eight bullets into the building, busting out that window, glass over the door. There’s even a hole in the steel of the door from where the bullet hit there.”

The first incident involving the pieces of concrete happened in April 2020. But following the shooting incident in June 2020, the party made some changes to the building.

“And that’s when we put in this really state-of-the-art security system,” she said.

The security system did capture footage of the latest incident which shows a person toss the bricks into two front windows before running off.

“So we went from concrete to bullets and now bricks,” Adams said. “They came by this time totally dressed in black from head to toe. Running. So I figured somebody dropped them off down here about a block away and they took off running.”

After the damage was discovered a report was filed with police, she said.

Adams said the party is offering a $1,000 reward for information that helps investigators make arrests.

“I’m offering $1,000 to anyone with information leading to the arrest and conviction of the people involved. And so this is critical. I’m asking people to please, if you saw anybody acting strange, If you saw a figure in black getting into a vehicle of any kind around Friday morning in the early hours … if they could please let the police know or stop by here and give me the information, I would really appreciate it,” Adams said.

While some people have already made donations to help repair the damage, dealing with the aftermath of another vandalism incident has taken its toll on Adams.

“I’m running out of patience,” she said.
