HUBER HEIGHTS — UPDATE @ 3:15 p.m.:
Criminal charges will not be filed against a Weisenborn Junior High School student who displayed what appeared to be a gun during a virtual lesson Thursday, according to Huber Heights police.

Officers were notified by the school district that a student allegedly showed what appeared to be a gun during a lesson. Officers contacted the student and found the gun was in fact a toy gun that had been painted black, a police spokesperson said in a media release.
Similarly to the school district’s investigation, police found that no threats were made by the student.
Police will not pursue charges against the student, but the findings of the investigation were sent to Huber Heights City Schools, the police spokesperson said.
Previously, district superintendent Mario Basora said HHCS would take appropriate disciplinary action based on the findings of the investigation.

Huber Heights City School officials and police are investigating after a Weisenborn Junior High School student displayed what appeared to be gun on camera during a virtual lesson Thursday, according to the school district.

“No threats or comments were made by the student to anyone in the virtual classroom,” district Superintendent Mario Basora said in a statement. “Huber Heights City Schools are investigating the incident. We believe our students are safe and not at risk of harm.”

Basora added Huber Heights police were informed of the incident and were making contact with the student and their family.
“HHCS will take appropriate disciplinary action regarding the student’s alleged behavior,” Basora said. “Our students’ and staff’s safety and wellbeing are of paramount importance to the district. As such we want to thank the students and parents that came forward with this information.”
