Kettering police identify man injured in officer-involved shooting

KETTERING — Kettering police have identified the man injured in an officer-involved shooting Thursday night.

Police identified the man during a press conference Friday as as 25-year-old Antonio Rose.

Around 9:10 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 500 block of Hadley Avenue after receiving multiple 911 calls reporting a domestic disturbance., according to a spokesperson for the Tactical Crime Suppression Unit.

One of the callers reported that her estranged boyfriend Antonio Rose had “attacked” her and then barricaded himself inside her apartment after cutting his wrists with a knife, the spokesperson said.

Kettering officers arrived on the scene and approached the apartment that Rose was in.

Upon contact, Rose did not follow the officers commands which lead to one Kettering officer firing multiple shots from his service weapon striking Rose multiple times, the spokesperson said.

Officers immediately began first aid and paramedics from the Kettering Fire Department responded to the scene and transported Rose to an area hospital. His current condition is unknown.

The Kettering Police Department requested that investigators from the Tactical Crime Suppression Unit conduct the criminal investigation, independent of their internal review.

One officer has been placed on administrative leave per department policy.

The Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office has charged Rose with burglary, abduction, domestic violence, aggravated menacing, and assault, according to Kettering Police Chief Chip Protsman said.

No officers were injured during the incident.

Police are expected to release new details after shots were fired by a Kettering Police officer Thursday night.

The Kettering Police Department announced it will be holding a press conference Friday. A specific time for the press conference has not been determined at this time.

There are still a lot of questions that remain unanswered, including the current condition of both the officer and the subject involved. It is also unclear how either of them got hurt but Kettering police called it an officer-involved shooting.

Officers were dispatched to the 500 block of Hadley Avenue around 9:15 p.m. on initial reports of “an officer needs assistance call.”

“Our officers were dispatched on a suicidal subject,” Lieutenant Craig Moore, Kettering Police, said Thursday night. “Upon their arrival, they were confronted with a situation in which the officer was forced to use his duty weapon involved in an officer-involved shooting. The conditions of both the subject the officer and the subject are unknown at this time.”

NewsCenter 7 also spoke with a neighbor Thursday night.

She told us a man and woman were in a pretty heated argument that got physical before police arrived.

“He was screaming at her, he liked lunged at her,” Tabi Cox told NewsCenter 7′s, Brandon Lewis. “Then, he started calling her a bunch of names.”

She said the boyfriend shoved her hard and called her a bunch of names. He said he was going to his girlfriend’s animals, according to Cox.

Later, she heard shots fired.

“I really hope everyone involved is okay,” said Cox. “I hope she’s okay, I hope he’s okay. I hope the police are okay. It’s just a sad, horrible situation.”

Cox says she does not know the couple and has also not seen anything like what she saw Thursday night.
