UPDATE: ‘We heard a big boom and explosion;’ 2 dead following fiery crash in Dayton

DAYTON — Two people are dead following a fiery crash in Dayton early Monday morning.

Dayton Police and medics were dispatched to the intersection of Riverside Drive and E. Hillcrest Avenue just after 12:30 a.m. on initial reports of a crash, according to Montgomery County Regional Dispatch.

Dispatchers told News Center 7 two people are confirmed to have died at the scene.

Callers described to dispatchers in 911 calls obtained by News Center 7 hearing a loud explosion and one of the vehicles involved was on fire.

“We heard a big boom and explosion,” a male caller said. “The car is on fire and some other stuff is on fire.”

A female caller described fire everywhere from the crash.

“A tree is on fire, the car is on fire,” she said. “Sidewalk is on fire, the road is on fire.”

Another caller said someone was ejected from the vehicle.

We are working to learn the identities of the two victims.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
