Sheriff’s office increases patrols for impaired drivers in Miami Co. through July 4th Weekend

Extra patrols funded through state grant

MIAMI COUNTY — Additional deputies will be on Miami County roads ahead and through the Fourth of July holiday weekend for increased traffic enforcement, including locating and stopping impaired drivers, Sheriff Dave Duchak announced Tuesday.

Extra patrols will be in effect July 3 through July 5 with deputies specifically looking for impaired drivers and other violations including seat belts.

“Statistically, the 4th of July holiday period is one of the deadliest on our nation’s roadways with alcohol playing a large factor in many of the crashes,” Duchak said in the release. “Deputies will be targeting Miami County roadways with high incidents of crashes and OVI arrests.”

Extra enforcement patrols will also continue through the rest of July.

The extra patrols are being funded through a grant the sheriff’s office received last year from the Ohio Office of Criminal Justice Services, Duchak said.
