WILMINGTON — A 14-year-old boy accused of shooting and killing a man over the weekend has surrendered to police.
The Wilmington City administrator told News Center 7 that Yevin Medley turned himself around 7:45 p.m. Monday evening.
Officers were called to a report of a shooting Saturday afternoon on Derbyshire Drive in Wilmington. The victim, identified as Caleb S. King, 20, died from his injuries at Clinton Memorial Hospital after he was shot in his abdomen, Wilmington police said in a statement Sunday.
Police identified the suspected shooter as Yevin Medley, 14, of Wilmington who was able to flee the scene after the shooting.
“The number one priority is the safe apprehension of Medley and we are collaborating with agencies statewide to do so,” Wilmington Police Chief Ron Cravens said in a statement.
Cravens added investigators have not located the gun used in the deadly shooting.
