DAYTON — UPDATE @ 9:30 p.m.: The man accused in the fatal shooting of Krysten Connally, who was slain in the driveway of her home on Hillpoint Lane, turned himself in at the Dayton police safety building downtown roughly 10 hours after the incident, Dayton police Sgt. Jason Hall said.
Several neighbors apparently witnessed the shooting, which was reported about 8:47 a.m. Saturday.
“Somebody was just shot dead,” one of the callers told a 9-1-1 operator with Montgomery County Regional Dispatch. He was able to describe the vehicle, part of the license tag information and the shooter’s clothing.
“She’s laying in her driveway,” the caller said. “She’s at her house.....no, no, no. She’s dead.”
The caller told 9-1-1 the shooter drove off toward Siebenthaler Avenue.
“I seen it from across the street and came running out,” he said.
The caller wanted to cover the woman but was told not to because doing so might disturb evidence.
“It looked like they were kind of arguing," the caller said. "The next thing I saw, he pulls a pistol, shoots a few shots, jumps in his car and backs off.”
Gregory Eugene Blanton, 32, the suspect, remained in the Montgomery County Jail on Monday night, according to the online jail roster. Formal charges are pending a review by the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office, Hall said.
Hall said the investigation so far shows that Blanton and Connally had a 4-year-old child together, but the status of their relationship at the time of the shooting was not immediately known. Hall said police are investigating the slaying as a domestic violence incident.
Earlier Monday, Montgomery County Coroner Dr. Kent Harshbarger ruled Connally’s death a homicide and that she died from multiple gunshot wounds.
A child in the house, who may be the child Blanton and Connally had together, may have witnessed the shooting and remains in the care of family, Hall said. Detectives had planned to speak with the child about what happened.
