WASHINGTON TWP. — SWAT officers from several area departments surrounded a Washington Twp. hotel after a man believed to be inside was accused of holding two adults and a child against their will Wednesday, according to Montgomery County Sheriff Rob Streck.

The incident began around midnight after a deputy spotted a stolen vehicle in the parking lot of the hotel near the intersection of I-675 and state Route 725. Court records show the car had been reported stolen out of West Chester in Butler County on May 27.
Deputies got Anthony Dill, 33, of Dayton, in custody around 3:30 p.m. and took him to the hospital to be checked out after he was exposed to gas that deputies fired into the room, authorities said.
While investigating the stolen vehicle, Streck said the sheriff’s office investigated and throughout the morning were able to determine who may have been involved in stealing the vehicle.
Deputies also learned about the people being held against their will and were able to eventually get them out of hotel room safely around 10 a.m.
Deputies believed Hill had a weapon and he didn’t come out when deputies tried to initially make contact with him. After searching the hotel room, deputies located a 9mm handgun in a backpack, along with multiple pieces of drug paraphernalia, court records read.
Officers blocked off the ramp to I-675 south from state Route 725 during the investigating since the room that was involved in the investigation faced the highway, Streck said.
A nearby building also was evacuated as a precaution.
Hill is charged with receiving stolen property and a weapons violation, since he was convicted of burglary in Montgomery County before and shouldn’t have had a gun. He also has numerous warrants out Warren County, the sheriff’s office said.
