Winchester woman found shot in front yard; Homicide investigation underway

WINCHESTER — Indiana State Police Criminal Investigation Division is investigating a shooting that left one person dead Sunday.

Winchester Police Officers were called to the 600 block of East Short Street at 7:15 p.m. When police arrived on scene, they found one woman in the front yard with a gunshot wound, and officers provided medical assistance, according to Winchester Police Department Assistant Chief Brandon Barndollar.

Isabel Hernandez, 36, of Winchester, was taken to Lutheran Hospital in Ft. Wayne, where she later died from her injuries.

Three people were taken to the police department to be questioned about the events that led to the shooting, Barndollar said in a release.

Larry J. Planck III, 25, Winchester, was arrested and preliminarily charged with murder and booked in the Randolph County Jail. Additional details about the investigation are not immediately known.

The investigation is ongoing, with Indiana State Police leading it. Once the investigation is complete, the case will be forwarded it the Randolph County Prosecutors’ office for formal charges.
