Driver rear-ends police cruiser, suspected to be under the influence

JEFFERSON TWP. — UPDATE @ 1 p.m.:

A driver believed to be under the influence was traveling at a high rate of speed just after 1 a.m. when they rear-ended a police cruiser in Jefferson Twp.

Police say the officer was traveling in his cruiser on North Gettysburg Avenue near Gardendale Avenue when the incident happened.

“The suspect driver was given a summons for OVI and several traffic citations,” said police.

The cruiser was towed from the scene due to the amount of damage, but no one was injured.

INITIAL REPORT:

A Dayton officer was struck by a vehicle while he was inside his cruiser around 1 a.m. in Jefferson Twp., according to scanner traffic.

Scanner traffic also indicated that the vehicle was either a Black Impala or Monte Carlo.

The vehicle was last seen on Gettysburg Ave.

The condition of the officer is unknown at this time.
